Halloween Party Snack Mix: 5 Easy Allergen Swaps

  • Author: Olivia
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

A festive, no-cook Halloween snack mix combining salted pretzels, candy corn, and dark chocolate chips. This versatile recipe includes five easy allergen swaps for gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, low-sugar, and vegan diets.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups salted pretzels (rods or twists)
  • 2 cups candy corn
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips (semi-sweet)
  • 4 cups gluten-free pretzels (for GF swap)
  • 1 cup dairy-free chocolate chips (for DF swap)
  • Roasted sunflower or pumpkin seeds (for nut-free crunch)
  • 1 cup unsweetened dried cranberries or raisins (for low-sugar swap)
  • Vegan candy corn and chocolate chips (for vegan swap)

Instructions

  1. Measure out all ingredients, including any allergen swaps, before starting.
  2. In a large 6-quart mixing bowl, combine the pretzels and candy corn.
  3. Gently toss the pretzels and candy corn to distribute evenly.
  4. Add the chocolate chips and fold gently with a spatula until well combined, being careful not to break the pretzels.
  5. Optional: Melt chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Drizzle over the mix and toss to coat.
  6. If using a chocolate drizzle, spread the mix on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let set for at least 30 minutes (or chill in the fridge for 15-20 minutes for faster setting).
  7. Transfer the finished mix to an airtight container for storage or serve immediately in small bowls or bags.

Notes

[‘Balance the sweet and salty flavors by adjusting the ratio of pretzels to candy corn.’, ‘Be gentle when folding to avoid breaking the pretzels.’, ‘Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.’, ‘Do not freeze, as candy corn becomes sticky and pretzels lose crunch.’, ‘If pretzels are slightly stale, toast them at 300°F for 5 minutes before mixing.’, ‘For a chocolate drizzle, add a teaspoon of coconut oil or vegetable shortening if the chocolate is too thick.’]
