Description
A homemade copycat version of the popular coffee shop drink, featuring a rich brown sugar syrup, creamy oat milk, and caramel drizzle. It is dairy-free, budget-friendly, and comes together in under 15 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (40g) medium or dark roast coffee beans or ground coffee
- 1 cup (240ml) oat milk (Barista Edition recommended)
- 2 tablespoons (30g) dark brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) water
- 2–3 tablespoons caramel sauce or drizzle
- Ice cubes (or coffee ice cubes)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Make the brown sugar syrup: In a small saucepan, combine the dark brown sugar and water. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture resembles thin honey (about 3-4 minutes). Remove from heat, stir in the pinch of salt, and let cool slightly.
- Brew the coffee: Brew 1 cup of strong coffee using half the usual water amount for concentration. Let it cool to room temperature or chill it.
- Prepare the glass: Drizzle caramel sauce on the inside walls of a tall glass (16 oz) in a zig-zag or spiral pattern.
- Assemble the latte: Fill the glass with ice cubes. Add 2 tablespoons of the cooled brown sugar syrup to the ice. Pour in the oat milk and stir to combine the syrup and milk.
- Layer the coffee: Slowly pour the brewed coffee over the back of a spoon to layer it on top of the milk.
- Serve: Drizzle additional caramel sauce on top. Serve immediately with a straw.
Notes
For best results, use Barista Edition oat milk for a creamier texture. You can make the brown sugar syrup ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to two weeks. To prevent dilution, freeze leftover coffee in an ice tray to use as coffee ice cubes. If the syrup is too thick, add a teaspoon of water; if too thin, cook it a minute longer.
