Chocolate Peanut Butter Breakfast Smoothie

  • Author: Olivia
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A thick, creamy, and chocolatey breakfast smoothie that tastes like a milkshake but provides sustained energy. Ready in just five minutes, this recipe uses frozen bananas and peanut butter for a filling, nutrient-dense start to your day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium frozen bananas (peeled, sliced, and frozen overnight)
  • 2 tablespoons creamy natural peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup milk (dairy, almond, oat, or soy)
  • 1 scoop protein powder (chocolate or vanilla, optional)
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: 1 handful spinach, 1 teaspoon chia seeds, or ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Peel bananas, break them in half, and freeze in a bag for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Pour milk into the blender first to protect the blades.
  3. Add frozen bananas, peanut butter, cocoa powder, protein powder (if using), honey (if using), and salt to the blender.
  4. Blend on low speed to break up the frozen fruit, then gradually increase to high speed.
  5. Blend for 45-60 seconds until completely smooth with no chunks.
  6. Taste and adjust consistency by adding more milk if too thick, or more frozen banana/ice if too thin.
  7. Pour immediately into a glass or travel tumbler and enjoy.

Notes

Frozen bananas are essential for the thick, creamy texture; fresh bananas will make the smoothie watery. Always add liquids to the blender first to protect the blades. If using a weaker blender, let frozen bananas thaw for 5 minutes before blending. This recipe is customizable with spinach, oats, or different nut butters.
