Description
A thick, creamy, and chocolatey breakfast smoothie that tastes like a milkshake but provides sustained energy. Ready in just five minutes, this recipe uses frozen bananas and peanut butter for a filling, nutrient-dense start to your day.
Ingredients
- 2 medium frozen bananas (peeled, sliced, and frozen overnight)
- 2 tablespoons creamy natural peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup milk (dairy, almond, oat, or soy)
- 1 scoop protein powder (chocolate or vanilla, optional)
- 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: 1 handful spinach, 1 teaspoon chia seeds, or ½ teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Peel bananas, break them in half, and freeze in a bag for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Pour milk into the blender first to protect the blades.
- Add frozen bananas, peanut butter, cocoa powder, protein powder (if using), honey (if using), and salt to the blender.
- Blend on low speed to break up the frozen fruit, then gradually increase to high speed.
- Blend for 45-60 seconds until completely smooth with no chunks.
- Taste and adjust consistency by adding more milk if too thick, or more frozen banana/ice if too thin.
- Pour immediately into a glass or travel tumbler and enjoy.
Notes
Frozen bananas are essential for the thick, creamy texture; fresh bananas will make the smoothie watery. Always add liquids to the blender first to protect the blades. If using a weaker blender, let frozen bananas thaw for 5 minutes before blending. This recipe is customizable with spinach, oats, or different nut butters.
