  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A cheap, fast, and crispy one-serving meal made in the air fryer. This recipe delivers restaurant-quality spicy shrimp with a homemade bang bang sauce for a fraction of the cost.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1216 oz frozen raw shrimp (peeled, deveined, thawed and dried)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 34 tablespoons sriracha sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Cooking spray (olive oil or neutral oil)

Instructions

  1. Thaw frozen shrimp under cold water for 3-5 minutes, then pat them completely dry with paper towels.
  2. In a large Ziploc bag, mix flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a second large Ziploc bag, place panko breadcrumbs.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of water to create an egg wash.
  5. Toss shrimp in the flour mixture, shake off excess, dip into the egg wash, then transfer to the panko bag. Shake gently to coat evenly.
  6. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.
  7. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil. Arrange shrimp in a single layer without overlapping.
  8. Spray the tops of the shrimp lightly with oil.
  9. Cook for 5 minutes, then flip the shrimp and spray the other side with oil.
  10. Cook for another 3-5 minutes until shrimp are pink, opaque, and crispy (total cook time 8-10 minutes).
  11. While shrimp cook, whisk together mayonnaise, sriracha, honey, and lemon juice in a small bowl until smooth.
  12. Transfer cooked shrimp to a plate and drizzle generously with the bang bang sauce, tossing to coat if desired.

Notes

Ensure shrimp are completely dry before coating to prevent soggy breading. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary. The sauce can be stored in the fridge for up to a week. For leftovers, reheat in the air fryer at 375°F for 3-4 minutes to restore crispiness.
